What is due next for Tuesday April 14:

  • Personal Branding idea; logo and/or graphic to represent yourself
  • All images uploaded to the Media Library
  • All pages mapped out via a Wire Frame AND in your website

What is coming up next:

  • The different types of slideshows and plug-ins
  • Captions and Details; how to use the Media library for photo information
  • CSS assignment: using transparency
  • Widgets
  • SEO and WordPress
  • Using Categories to create Blog Posts that have searchable relevance, or navigation links
  • Using Social Media to enhance your site. You should have either a Linked-In account, a professional Facebook page or both, and link to your site. If your Facebook page has images of you that are less than professional, and fail to show off your visual art skills, this is the time to create a new page that is exclusively for your professional life.

Don’t forget:

  1. First round for sites due April 21 for class critique. Work one-on-one with classmate and go over site to help each other tweak details
  2. Second round April 23 to be ready for Open House April 25

CHECK LIST for successful completion:

  1. Favicon: locate area for uploading favicon, or use a Plug-In
  2. Home page has short intro blurb and lead-ins to pages as well as navigation (sliders or clickable areas with lead-in images)
  3. Logo and/or Header image treatment
  4. CSS modifications 3-5 (at least) changes using either the Editor in the Dashboard with a back-up of the original css, OR using the Custom CSS section available in many WordPress Themes
  5. All pages have titles that help user and Search Engines determine the content and importance of your page
  6. All images have complete captions, titles with original dimensions, year completed, material or software used, client requirements or assignment parameters.
  7. Footer and widgets used intelligently

 

AUTHOR SITE PROJECT

Design a “Fan” site for an author. Each student has been assigned an author from the list below, to create a small, informational fan site.

REQUIREMENTS: Four or five page website must include….

  1. Layout with a header  logo, picture or other unifying visual element and navigation/menu
    main content
  2. Home page
  3. footer with copyright, social media if applicable or contact info (fictional is fine!)Home page
  4. Biography page (please cite any references and link to them i.e.Wikipedia)
  5. Links page that includes a partial list of the authors works.
    SUGGESTION: Include a few images of books and link the image to amazon.combarnesandnoble.com or a publishing site
  6. A mini-gallery with 4-6 pictures of author

 

PROCESS:

  1. Research your author. Collect images, information and links from your research. (done)
  2. Create a wireframe (done)
  3. Create a PSD layout from wireframe (done)
  4. Using a one column fixed header and footer layout to create the HTML webpage (done)
    that will be the prototype for the other three pages.
  5. Using the CSS window, design all of your type, link and color properties. (due Tuesday)Next week:
  6. Learn more HTML and CSS techniques to build page
  7. Using “Save As” create the other three pages.
  8. Insert images, and links.

REMEMBER

  1. Always start with your SITE menu, and define the name and location of your site each
    and every time you work on the school’s computers.
  2. Always put information into the TITLE text field of your page.
  3. Use Classic Workspace and “Split” view when working in Dreamweaver
  4. No uppercase letters in documents that are images, or HTML
  5. Links to external website include a target _blank to open up a new window.
