Here is my short list, and a few links below to help you on your journey to creating a WordPress hosted site:
- Get a great Hosting Service! Here is a list, I’ve used two of them, Bluehost and GoDaddy with excellent results.
- Install Back-up software and use IMMEDIATELY!!!!! My favorite is Updraft.
- ALWAYS update to the latest WordPress.
- Back-up before making updates to Themes, plug-ins etc.
- Read read read!!!!!! Look up anything you don’t understand, and then, look up a second or third opinion. Use my resources link on this blog, or Google away…
- Always make a ‘Child Theme’ rather than change a theme’s CSS
- Don’t go the way of FREE only, many themes come with free FREE free tech support after a one-time initial cost. It will be the best $50 you spend. Penny-wise and dollar-foolish doesn’t pay off with WordPress.
- Delete unused themes and plug-ins, they weigh your site down.
- Consider learning CSS and HTML to enhance your sites design, PHP to modify it’s functionality, and SQL to work on a local (home computer, not “live” site.
